Vietnam is preparing a law that would include taxi app drivers under mandatory social insurance, reports Vietnam.vn.
According to Vietnam.vn, Vietnam is working on a change in the law that would include drivers who drive via apps under mandatory social insurance. The proposal arises from consultations on the revision of the social insurance law, in which delegates focused on discussing the expansion of mandatory social insurance and health insurance coverage, particularly targeting ride-hailing drivers, and proposed clarifying the relationship between platform businesses and their employees to ensure social security benefits. At the national level the representatives reached a high degree of consensus on the policy to expand social security to new groups of employees, in particular drivers of ride-hailing services.
This discussion is not only happening in Vietnam. The question has also been raised in the Netherlands and the rest of the European Union for some time whether drivers who drive via a platform should be seen as self-employed or as employees with the right to social protection. This is relevant for the taxi sector in the Rijnmond region, because it shows that platform work in passenger transport is receiving the attention of legislators worldwide, even though the rules differ per country.
For those who board VindTaxi, nothing changes: this news concerns legislation in Vietnam and has no direct consequences for rides in Rotterdam, Vlaardingen, Schiedam or the rest of Rijnmond. VindTaxi drives with its own driver in the Nissan Ariya and works together with affiliated companies within the Taxi EU Service NL Platform for larger journeys, regardless of the regulations discussed in this message.
